I fully appreciate Nia as a movement practice, but even more so- as a healing practice.  Nia is a vehicle for healing through movement.  It gives us the opportunity to connect with ourselves on all levels- body, mind, and spirit.  It helps us ignite and nourish the creative source within all the while bringing life force energy and vitality to the physical being AND allowing for time and space to experience freedom of the mind and spirit, bringing clairty, balance, and openness.  I have watched the journey of many students in Nia, including myself, being able to honor whatever state they are in when they enter the class and then throughout the process, find a state of joy and leave the class in a state of bliss.  It is an absolute blessing and gift to be able to share this practice!

Growing up, I was always dancing, exercising, active and in shape.  I loved movement and was aware of the sensation of feeling good in my body when I engaged my body actively. I can remember, even as a child, feeling like somehow I wanted to help people to have healthier bodies, minds, and spirits by engaging all aspects of the self through movement.  Also, I always knew that I wanted to help animals, the environment, and somehow encourage the awareness in people of an underlying commonality and unity among the global community.  The road I have traveled has been long and winding, but I truly believe I am on the path I am meant to walk.  I became a Reiki Master in 2006, learned more about Animal Communication, and became a Certified Energy Medicine Practitioner in 2009.  I have a healing practice called Windancer Healing Arts, providing energy based holistic healing and life cycle support for people and animals in person and long distance.

In 2005, I was in a car accident which made it very difficult for me to move my body for quite a while. My body felt foreign to me, I didn't recognize it and was unfamiliar with the limited sense of movement.  After being active and healthy my whole life, this was a very difficult challenge to "move" through, physically and emotionally.  It took several years to help heal my back, but in the meantime, I also got very anemic and incredibly weak.  So, even though my back was healing, it was still difficult for me to be active.  I first found out about Nia in 2009 and took classes for about a year.  I clearly remember the way I felt after the first class and saying that I felt like my body was alive again.  Unfortunately, my anemia got progressively worse and I had to stop.  In the fall of 2010, I started to become stronger again and was ready to re-engage my body.  Shortly thereafter, I had a major moment connecting with my soul and it's deep longing to dance and I realized that I could no longer deny myself that longing.  Somehow, I needed to find a way (besides around my house) to DANCE!   When I asked myself the question of HOW?  The first thing that came to mind was Nia.  When I looked at the website, I realized how much more comprehensive it is and how incredibly complimentary it is to the healing work I do- everything comes back to energy!  So, I signed up and took the White Belt Intensive.  It was a wonderful training which has opened up more possibilities to bring movement to the larger community for EVERYONE (adults and children alike), than I had ever imagined.  Practicing Nia has re-ignited my soul spark and brought my body back into a state of vitality!  I'm thrilled to be teaching now and so excited to share this in as many ways as I can.
