I arrived at station Nia after playing many and diverse roles:  writer, communications professional, improvisation trainer, amateur actress, high school English & theatre teacher, youth choir conductor, mother/wife, vocalist, and golden retriever enthusiast among them.  In college musical theatre, I was always the "back row" girl  -- the untrained dancer they added to fill out the corps because she could move and count just enough to keep up with with the ensemble.  A lifetime of yoga, dog-walking, chasing kids, and singing kept me connected to movement and music, but I never truly felt at home in my body until Nia.  What a shame that I didn't stumble into a Nia class (literally -- I misread the schedule!) years earlier.  The threads of expressive movement and music, of relaxed sensation and heightened exertion, of joy and release that weave through a Nia class never fail to rejuvenate my body, heart and soul.  I am a person of many impulses and moods, and I love the interaction of opposing yet complimentary forces in Nia class:  yin and yang, agility and mobility, "get moving" and floorplay, body and mind.  Somehow, working with these shifting modalities helps me to integrate and channel my energy.  And I love what Nia has done for my body -- how it feels, how it looks, and how much more I love and accept it.  As my 14 year daughter will testify, I am happier and more patient since Nia danced its way into my life.  I am so excited to be sharing the joy with other dancers as a teacher.  It is a great gift to share this amazing practice, and I am grateful for each and every student who walks into my class.
