My Credentials

  • M.A./dance, Somatic Educator and Expressive Arts Therapist

Lucie Beaudry

Nia White Belt Teacher
LaSalle, Montréal, QC, Canada

As somatic educator, expressive arts therapist and certified Nia Technique teacher, Lucie Beaudry’s practice focuses on principles of self-awareness development through the body’s experience of movement. Her professional and university trainings, here and abroad, have allowed her to develop an expertise in somatic education – a field where each individual is considered as a ‘global person’. Lucie gives regular group classes, thematic workshops and training sessions in both commercial businesses and the public sector. She is currently developing a private practice.

Lucie has studied somatic education at the Université du Québec in Montreal (she holds a post-graduate degree in specialized studies) while completing a Masters in dance. Through her Master’s thesis, entitled LEAVING AN ANCHOR IN TROUBLED WATERS : somatic education and the female victim of incest’s relationship to her body, she was able to document and share the effects of somatic education on how her own relationship with her body evolved – an initiative which may resonate with other victims of sexual abuse. Lucie also explored the manual practice developed by Moshe Feldenkrais during a one-year course at the Feldenkrais Institute for the Study of Somatic Education. Today, she rounds out her somatic educator profile by practising as an expressive arts therapist for which she completed a three-year program entitled Expressive Arts Therapy Based on Movement at the Tamalpa Institute in California. She is the institute’s first graduate from Québec and is now integrating the Tamalpa Life/Art Process to her therapeutic practice. In California, Lucie also had the opportunity to study Movement Ritual with its creator Anna Halprin whose work draws, among others, on the Moshe Feldenkrais Method. Lucie is also a certified Nia Technique teacher; Nia is a sensory-based movement practice combining dance and martial arts and integrating elements from various somatic approaches. She has also explored Continuum Movement, the Fitness Table Method, yoga, jazz and classical dance.

Lucie is a member of the following groups : Association Feldenkrais Québec (AFQ), Regroupement pour l’éducation somatique (RES), Association des Naturothérapeutes du Québec (ANQ) and Dance Movement Therapy Association in Canada (DMTAC)
