I first became connected to the Joy of movement 12 years ago. As I danced in my first Nia class, I felt a door opening within. As I stepped through, I turned inward. Though I was surrounded by swaying bodies of various shapes, sizes,and abilities, I felt deeply connected to myself for the first time. I became body aware for the first time, I was present for the first time. following simple steps and gestures, with poetic verbal guidance, and fun,varied music, I became the witness of my own movement experience. I found my body. I found wonder. I found the joy of movement. I believe movement can transform people on all levels. The form of Nia provides the structure and also encourages freedom within that form, Nia is accessable to all bodies. Because Nia is self directed,it as accessable to all fitness levels. The practice of Nia gave me access to my own body. I am honored to help facilitate that access in others every week.
