Notes About This Class

Nia Brings Fitness to Hoboken and The Hudson School Scholarship Fund

This Spring, The Hudson School will to add to its community offerings -- Nia, the movement technique that begins with fitness and ends with comprehensive healing of the body, mind, emotion and spirit.

Classes will be held Saturdays from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. beginning on March 1 and ending June 21. Individual class price is $20; the full Spring Package is $240. All proceeds will be donated to The Hudson School Scholarship Fund.

The Nia Technique emphasizes moving differently through nine forms of dance, martial arts and healing arts. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring, inspiring, rhythmic music. By shifting your movement habits, you will create a strong and healthy body as well as engage your mind, emotion and spirit.

“With Nia, I see students tone, get in shape and open new pathways to fitness and well being. I love to watch these changes take place and how the community forms around the movement,” says Amy Warshawsky, Nia Instructor and new Hoboken resident. “For me, Nia is a coming home to my body, my spirit and the life I choose to create.”

Nia is a workout that leaves you feeling recharged, rejuvenated and fully alive. It creatively integrates the mindfulness of the martial arts and meditative techniques, the grace and fluidity of the dance techniques, and the awareness and alignment of integrative body therapies.

Balancing technical precision with free-form expression, Nia brings the body, mind, emotions and spirit to optimum health though movement and self-expression, guided by the sensation of Pleasure.

Designed for all bodies and all levels, it is ageless and limitless, fun and energizing for every person from athletes, dancers and fitness instructors, to children, special needs groups and the elderly. Each student is encouraged to modify their movement, speed and range of motion so all fitness levels can self-guide their Nia practice to meet their needs.

The Hudson School is located at 601 Park Avenue. Nia Class will take place in the 4th floor gym accessible via stairs and elevator. Students are requested to enter through the back door of the school in the parking lot.
