Notes About This Class
We dance by fairy-lights, overlooking the most exquisite view of the twinkling city lights.
Nia class is taken barefoot to a great music mix and every class blends movement from the Dance Arts, Martial Arts and Healing Arts. Come and move your body in a way that feels good; connect to self, community and possibility.
Beginners are welcome. Nia provides a very safe space to be yourself. There is no expectation on you. No judgement. Just appreciation for everybody's uniqueness and the intention to experience the joy of movement. Complete permission to 'be'. Plus it's fun!
What is Nia?
Nia is an energising, life-changing, fun and expansive movement practice that takes you home to your body via sensation - encouraging students to choose pleasure as they move.
What can people expect from a Nia class?
To feel alive, to feel warm and delicious. To have a really good workout without 'working' at it – the moves are simple and mood is light-hearted and fun. You'll be having so much fun you won't notice how hard you're working. Your spirit will also feel uplifted and you'll feel connected to your body and yourself.
How does it differ from other fitness classes?
There is no 'you must do this' instruction in a Nia class. No 'push it hard' … No 'this is the right way'. Nia invites the student to explore moving in their own body's way, and stepping onto a path of self-awareness and self-healing in their own time. There is no right and wrong in Nia. And sometimes less is more. How many exercise classes invite you to really listen to your own body as you move and to choose pleasure. There is a somatic relaxation as the student is given permission to do it their own way. And through following the design of the human body – The Body's Way – which is lovingly communicated through Nia – you can attain levels of fitness and strength, flexibility, mobility and agility and stability that you may not have expected. That has been my experience. And once you've been to Nia, you can't wait to get back there. There is no 'forcing' yourself to go. Just excitement at the thought of when the next Nia experience may be.
Who is Nia good for?
Anybody who lives in a body. Women and men, any age, any level of fitness. Nia is exceptionally good for helping people express who they really are in a joyful way. It is fun, you can get fit and it is healing on every level.
What results do people get?
Increased cardiovascular fitness. Agility, stabliity, mobility, strength and stability. Aging with grace. Self-healing. Improved self-esteem. Better communication skills. Happiness. Letting go things that no longer serve them. The ripples extend out to those around them. Transformation in body, mind, emotions and spirit. Peace.
