The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.

Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.

In the spring of 1995 I walked into my first Nia class by chance - and my life changed forever.  I was totally disabled by asthma, a physical therapist unable to work and a dancer unable to even cross the room to answer the phone.  I could barely breathe and had no business being in a cardio class.  But Nia is no ordinary cardio class.

Nia gave me the medicine of awareness and the medicine of The Joy of Movement that allowed me to discover my body’s way to heal.  After two years of Nia, my breathing improved by 50%. After seven years, I was off all medication. Today my respiratory function is 130% of normal.  You can read about how Nia healed my asthma here.

My path has always been a path of synthesis, inspired by the arts, sciences and cultures of the world.  Nia's happy mixture of dance, martial arts and healing arts fits me perfectly. I have danced professionally. I hold a green belt in Shodokan Karate. And I practice physical therapy at my clinic in Ashland, Synergy Physical Therapy.

I did my Nia White Belt Training in 1999 with Nia Co-creators Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas. Today I am a Nia Black Belt and a Nia Trainer and I am more passionate about the gifts Nia brings than ever!

Nia's philosophy is Through Movement We FInd Health.  Nia has brought me physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being. Nia has deepened my love for my own body and for the dance that is all things.

Come, join me for Nia and the practice of The Joy of Movement!
