About Nia

What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Consecutive trainings collectively explore 52 principles for personal enrichment and professional development. Read testimonials from people of all ages, backgrounds and locations.

Why was Nia created?

Nia’s purpose is to grow a worldwide community of healthy people who are empowered to do great things. We believe every person can discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life – by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies. With the right tools and education, we can increase our confidence and happiness. We can become connected to others to shape a consciousness that extends beyond our own. Together we will unearth possibilities never before imagined.

Nia 5 Stages of Self-Healing 5-Week Series - Receiving Healing from the Body

When: Sundays - January 12, 19, 26 and February 2 and 9, 2014

Time: 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Where: The Dance Space in Greenwood - 124 N 103rd Street, Seattle, WA 98133

Contact me with any questions about this series: jennifer@everybodyloveyourbody.com

The Nia 5 Stages is an integrative practice based on the five stages of human development: embryonic, creeping, crawling, standing and walking.

When the body moves through the Nia 5 Stages, the body, mind, emotions, and spirit naturally realign, unify and integrate, leaving a greater sense of wholeness, health and well-being. Developed as a practice, these stages lead to changes that improve one's physical comfort, ability to move efficiently, and improvement in whole body functioning and posture.

This 5-week series will introduce you to the Nia 5 Stages and emphasizes how this practice allows us to receive healing from the body.

Notes About This Class

Nia Practice with Faculty Trainer, Jill Pagano

This 6-week class is dedicated to practicing Nia's 52 moves using the routine SOUL. Each week we'll review a song from SOUL, learn the 52 moves in the song and practice them with and without the music.  You'll get hands-on instruction on crafting the move in your body, based on your body's way. Practicing Nia's 52 moves enhances your embodiment, conditions specific parts of the body (ie hand techniques condition the hands) and enhances your ability to see all Nia routines as a blend of Nia's 52 moves. By learning the 52 moves you'll be able to decode Nia choreography with more ease and move your body with more skill for a greater conditioning effect and less injury-risk.

This series is excellent for the new-to-Nia person!

If you are a Nia White Belt Graduate or Nia Teacher, we'll layer in Nia's Principles for a greater depth of study.

Nia teachers receive a 20% off discount from Drop in or class card rate.

No registration necessary.

Purchasing the Nia book is recommended. We have used copies for discounted pricing at the studio.

Notes About This Event

Nia and Horses® White Belt Training, developed by Nia Faculty Trainer and equestrian educator, Randee Fox is for every body wanting to deepen their Nia practice, both dancing in the studio, in nature and with horses. Whether you are drawn to horses (no horse experience necessary) or are an equestrian, or an equestrian educator, you will resonate with this special White Belt Training. This training is the prerequisite you will need to license as a classic Nia teacher and/or a Nia and Horses® teacher - bringing Nia to equestrians and horse lovers.

All of Nia’s 13 White Belt Principles are applicable and synchronous to movement with horses, enhancing sensory IQ, physical awareness, body language and energetic communication with horses.

Because it is in a horse’s nature to ‘mirror’ our movement and energy bodies, their feedback can inform us of our leadership qualities, teaching styles and ability to connect to our own sensations moment-to-moment. Nia and Horses® White Belt Training will give you new tools to greater self awareness, movement habits and how you present yourself as a leader in the world.
Whether you are wanting to become a Nia Teacher, deepen your Nia practice or are an active equestrian or equestrian educator, Nia and Horses® White Belt Training will open opportunities for you to create a more finely-tuned sense of aesthetic, rhythm by offering a wide range of physical, expressive movement and musical enhancement tools.

Feed your creative appetite and immerse yourself into the week-long Nia and Horses® White Belt Training and retreat, grounded in nature, harmony, ease and physical sensation at The Blue Heron Ranch.

Nia and Horses® White Belt Training also offers opportunities for you to somatically connect more deeply your nature, your ‘animal self’. Sessions are taken in a beautiful light-filled 1,500 square foot dance studio, in the horse arena with horses, on wooded trails, under trees, and on hillsides with soft beds of grass while experiencing your body’s nature in nature. Nia and Horses® White Belt Training is fun, filled with adventure and surprise.

Blue Heron Ranch Studio is an inspirational movement space with sprung wood floors, high ceilings, surrounded by nature, horse pastures and filled with light - a perfect place to take your Nia and Horses® White Belt Training.

Upon taking Nia and Horses® White Belt Training, you will graduate as a Nia White Belt practitioner and have the opportunity to certify as a licensed Nia Educator via The Nia Livelihood Membership.

Notes About This Event

Dear Nia Teachers and all Belt Graduates,

One day while visiting Nia Faculty Trainer Jill Pagano at her studio in West Seattle, Blue Belt Teacher Sommer Joy Albertsen began to speak about the powerful healing effect of the natural elements--water, sun, fire, earth, wind--in the island's natural surroundings.

That conversation sparked our Desire. Imagination and Expectation of gathering on Whidbey Island for the intent of increasing life force in a natural surroundings with our community of teachers.

“How can we, together, create a beautiful opportunity for ourselves and other Nia teachers to reboot, rejuice, reconnect and find harmony internally and within community?

Our conversation led to other conversations, which guided us to excitedly offer a Nia Teacher Retreat (for graduates too!) on magical Whidbey Island in the glory of summer--August 22-24th.

With another conversation to create the outline, held during April’s collaborative moon and eclipse energy, the retreat sessions unfolded with powerful flow--as if tuned to a frequency and magic bigger than either of us! This no longer was a retreat of “workshopswe were offering”. Amidst goose-bump moments and the sensation of Yes! in our body, the evolution of the weekend revealed itself through our voices, yet somehow, thecollective voice--come together to refuel and rejoice in Nia and our community. At the end of our conversation-to-create, we indeed both sensed healing rise and transform us. We ended the call grateful for the opportunity to create and serve.

Here we are now, a month later, ready to share this golden-infused weekend with you, in the heart of the upcoming warm Summer sun. **We felt called to create** this weekend and feel the yearning for time together.

We invite you to join us in the magical natural setting of Whidbey Island.

Cast into the breeze by the sea.

                Step into the shifting sand.

Release worries into water's edge, slip into boundless dance.

The weekend offerings include:

**4 Nia Classes under the Summer sun on the beach, and other unique sacred spaces.

**4 Playshop sessions designed to refuel connection to Self, to Nia, to Livelihood, and to Community.

**Inspiration from four ceremonies honoring the inspirational elements of Fire & Sun, Earth, Water, and Wind.

**A welcoming place to revisit your Sacred Livelihood, emerge with a revised and liberated Nia-potent business story.
