About the Nia Blue Belt
Blue Belt, the second level of Nia education, explores how to create healthy relationships through body-centered communication. This intensive introduces the next set of 13 Nia principles, which focus on the mental, emotional and spiritual realms of the body. While the White Belt curriculum focuses entirely on awareness of physical sensation, Blue Belt applies these skills to explore internal sensations as perceived through – but distinct from – physical sensations in the body.

While the White Belt curriculum focuses entirely on awareness of physical sensation, Blue Belt applies these skills to explore internal sensations as perceived through – but distinct from – physical sensations in the body.
Blue Belt Principle #1: The Joy of Being in Relationship, integrates the sensation of Joy with the awareness that Joy is something outside the self, which we can invite into our physical experience. As a result, we begin to deepen our ability to listen with clarity and sustain awareness of details outside our body.

Dedicated lifelong to self-healing and self-mastery, Debbie Rosas has been a pioneer and leader in the body-mind fitness industry since 1976. Her extensive exploration of dance, martial arts, fine arts, music, therapy and healing work inspired and developed into the creation of the internationally acclaimed body-mind fitness program and lifestyle company, Nia Technique, Inc. Ken Gilbert, MA, is a Somatic Educator and Theater Artist. He is one of the First Generation Nia Trainers in White and Green Belts (currently apprenticing in Blue Belt). Ken is a visual/kinesthetic learner who has adopted auditory styles of learning. He taught group fitness and practiced as a Personal Trainer for 20 years and over the past five years he teaches and applies his somatic development in his “Integrating Pilates” and Nia Classes; practicing Nia’s “Sensation Science”. He is a physical-based actor/director in the theater; directing and performing with DramaDogs, a Theater Company (www.dramadogs.org) with his wife, E. Bonnie Lewis, in Santa Barbara, California.
Ken initiated his somatic journey into self-awareness, realization and actualization in 1983 when he began re-birthing. Wanting to sense more depth into his psyche and physical integration of body•mind•emotion•spirit he began Reichian Therapy in 1986, truly beginning his inner journey of “self” as an artist in the world. Later on, he trained in Hakomi, body-centered psychotherapy; not to be a therapist, rather to be more lovingly present when teaching group classes and facilitating private and semi-private training sessions.
Recovering from a divorce, in 1987, Ken decided to take responsibility for his health, well-being and fitness. Receiving a professionally traded membership at Santa Barbara Athletic Club he began finding wonder and satisfaction in group fitness classes as well as the weight room. During his 20 years at SBAC he taught High/Low Impact, Interval Training, Step, Slide, Spinning and Resistance Classes. For 5 years he worked with the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) as a Certification Specialist – training and testing Aerobic Instructions at the level of Primary Certification. He also worked with clients one-on-one using the Personal Training principles of the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Ken’s work in somatic precision was initiated in 1994 when he began training in Pilates; he became a Pilates Teacher in 1996 when he met Ron Fletcher, with whom he studied for 10 years finding the depth, dimensionality, and expressivity of detail in spinal mechanics “for the body|the mind|the breath|the spirit.” From Ron he learned how to live in the spirit of moving in the details of each breath. Currently teaching “Integrating Pilates” based on the fundamentals inherent of the work of Joseph H. Pilates, The Ron Fletcher Work™, and Nia®.
Expressivity has always been a part of Ken’s life journey. In 1997, Ken began his study and work with Debbie Rosas Stewart and Carlos AyaRosas, co-creators of Nia®. In Nia Ken found a program and fusion of transformational health and fitness, well-being and life-style. He became a Nia Black Belt in 2003 and in 2005 one of the International Nia Trainers facilitating Workshops, Master Classes, and Nia White and Green Belt Trainings; training in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and North America including Canada.
His theatrical artistry is demonstrated within DramaDogs, a multidisciplinary theater production and education company, where as co-artistic director he produces, directs and performs. Somatically based from inception to performance, DramaDogs creates challenging and entertaining theatrical productions and provides enriching workshops and theater arts programs. His creative work gives voice to the unconventional and offbeat; providing audiences and students with the opportunity to experience a greater compassion and understanding of ourselves and others.
Currently living in Santa Barbara, Ken owns EmBODYment, Somatic Education in Movement and Creative Integration (www.embodyment.com) and “Awakening into Awareness – Journey into Body•Mind•Emotion•Spirit.” Ken teaches in Santa Barbara at CenterPoint Pilates and Yoga Soup as well as other locations in the United States and Internationally. Ken’s philosophy is based on the belief that we are here to Awaken into the Awareness of sensation; to become more connected to our physical|mental|emotional|spirit realms through the physical body. Ken helps people awaken into the awareness of their body through the joy and pleasure of movement.

Bringing the Sacred to Life is my purpose. I am dedicated to help you heal your body, mind and spirit....one body at a time.
"Dancing with Stephaney is like venturing into a sensory bath that is part tribal, part heady reflectionist, and part git-down hootchy kooch. She inspires a vivid meditation that rocks the mind, electrifies the body and tickles the soul." - Willi Jones, Performer, New York, New York.

Stephaney Robinson-Abilon is a member of the Nia International Training Faculty as a Black Belt Somatic Educator, Nia White Belt Trainer, Nia Green Belt Trainer and Nia 5 Stages facilitator, she has been helping others transform and heal through movement for over 30 years.
"There is a spontaneous healing that happens just by the mere fact that we move." In Stephaney's Nia Trainings, workshops and classes you will learn to discover fitness via sensation, emotional balance, and spiritual fulfillment. Her trainings are the complete package.
Stephaney invites you to experience your white or green belt under her experienced guidance. Since 1996 she has worked in depth with Debbie Rosas-Stewart and Carlos Aya-Rosas. Early spinal injuries created limited mobility and pain in her body. Using Nia as her movement medicine she found healing on many, many levels and now lives in a pain free body. She is the original founder of Spirit Moves in Charleston, Nia Body Journey series, and her new creation DreamAlice has her touring the Unites States sharing the 5 Keys to Wonderland. Her love of theatre, writing and planetary healing weave themselves into her trainings for a well rounded week that is grounded as well as self-expressive. She has immersed herself in movement since 1986 within many modalities.. She is grateful for all her teachers including Gloria Karpinski, Emilie Conrad of Continuum, Susan Harper of Montage and several other dance, yoga and healing facilitators.
You are invited to use every Nia movement to make the body feel better. Discover ways to seek health within each motion, and to free your body from injury while stopping the mind from idulging in thoughts that cause unhappiness and stress. All healing can be initiated through the body; and then supported with images, feelings, and personal spirit energy. In your Nia White Belt you can learn to use the power of Joy, Relaxation and Personal Expression as a form of healing. Walk away from your Nia class or training with less mental stress and a better-conditioned body than when the training began.

Testimonials:
Stephaney Robinson is clearly the teacher I was meant to study and dance with. A vibrant, warm woman, Stephaney creates a welcoming community space, one in which laughter, creativity, and contemplation are at home. She walks a path that is deeply rooted in the earth and highly spiritual as well. And she brings a creative spirit to movement that I ~ and her other students ~ greatly appreciate. -Rene Caputo North Carolina
"My work with you has truly changed my world. I don't know that I would have had the courage to truly speak my truth so profoundly if you had not danced, with such encouragement and glee, into my life. you have brought me a sense of balance, of self-confidence, of utter joy and I thank the universe over and over for YOU! -Sarah Froeber - Author "My Many Selves"
"Stephaney's nia class is a staple in my life. Going to her class on a Sunday morning is like going to church and studying the temple of the body in ecstatic ways. There is a wisdom in her teaching that I have not found elsewhere in my journey with nia over the last eight years. There is joy, but there is much more. Participants have a chance to explore how the body relates to the inner being and it's capacity for growth and transcendence through physical exploration and movement. Stephaney offers a depth that is rare among dance teachers. She has ability to go beyond the external elements of nia and tap into those higher realms of spirit that only a teacher can do if he or she is living and practicing it themselves." -Leela Graber Charleston, SC
