About the Nia Brown Belt

By the time you reach Brown Belt, the third level of Nia education, you have developed a proficiency in sustaining awareness of your physical body and paying attention to the sensory details of the four realms: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This level of training explores the experience of living as energy beings, as every experience of sensation in the body is an energy experience.
Brown Belt Principle 1: The Joy of Movement in the Zone, introduces "The Zone," a place of no thinking, a universe unto itself. The Zone is a state of heightened sensation inside and out, from which you can think with the both the logical mind and the intuitive parts of your being. In The Zone, energy fields are tactile and readily available to you; Brown Belt teaches you how to tap into this energy to make positive changes in each of the four realms of your life.

Dedicated lifelong to self-healing and self-mastery, Debbie Rosas has been a pioneer and leader in the body-mind fitness industry since 1976. Her extensive exploration of dance, martial arts, fine arts, music, therapy and healing work inspired and developed into the creation of the internationally acclaimed body-mind fitness program and lifestyle company, Nia Technique, Inc. Debbie’s work also includes the writing and production of Nia® educational materials and lifestyle products, such as music, DVDs and the NiaWear™clothing line. Nia brings concepts and forms from Eastern and Western practices into mainstream fitness classes and has been instrumental in the evolution of the fitness industry, opening doors to more esoteric disciplines such as Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates. Today, Nia Technique, Inc. is a thriving business supporting approximately 2,200 Licensed Nia Teachers across 38 countries.
In constant exploration of Nia's philosophy, The Body’s Way, Debbie continues to develop educational curriculum to facilitate optimal health and wellbeing. In addition to the Nia body of work, she has played a key role in developing programs for doctors at The Naturopathic School of Medicine, women, teen departments at Shriner’s Hospital and arthritis and autism departments at Oregon Health and Sciences University. My passion is movement. I took 2 Nia classes at a Spa in CA in 1991, and knew instantly that Nia was something I would do for the rest of my life. I was dancing professionally in NYC and felt with Nia, I had found the secret to keeping myself in shape and teaching dancers and non-dancers how to find freedom, joy and pleasure in movement. My degree is in dance and I am also a Nia trainer, a certified personal trainer, certified yoga instructor, Gabrielle Roth 5 Rhythms instructor, and creative movement specialist for kids. I design Nia programs for people with Parkinson's and Cancer as well as for Corporate Wellness programs, schools & health clubs. My main focus as a teacher/trainer is to deliver Nia in a way that is fresh, creative and deeply rooted in joy. It is very satisfying to watch a student discover how to move their body in a way that is healing, expressive and unique. The creativity of Nia is what keeps my passion alive. My classes are rarely the same. When in NYC come dance with me.
