What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Notes About This Class

Are you new to moving? Self-conscious? Worried you won’t be able to keep up in a full class? Come and join me for some Nia Practise sessions!

We’ll use the regular Nia Routines, but a bit less intense, with more repetition of moves. The goal is to help you connect with the “Joy of Movement” that is Nia in a way that helps to remind you how capable your body is! Weight, age, or fitness level shouldn’t be barriers to having fun moving your body. So come and connect with your “Inner Dancer” in a fun, supportive way.

These sessions will be facilitated by Donna Wyatt. Donna completed her Nia White Belt Training in August 2013, and is working on her BCRPA Certification as a Group Fitness Instructor.  While new to teaching, she has been taking Nia classes for the past 5 years with Patti Tennessy, and has experienced firsthand how transformative it can be.

Sessions start Thursday Feb  13th from 5-6 pm  at Motion Works Fitness Studio. $8 drop-in (cash only please.) Wear comfortable clothes, bring a water bottle and your BEAUTIFUL self and we’ll have some fun together.
