This Friday I fly to Fiji for a weeklong 'Journey Into Joy'. It's the third year I’ve facilitated this retreat in the enervating energy of Savusavu. I feel relaxed that our small group will be lovingly looked after by the welcoming, radiantly happy and grounded Fiji 'family' of Daku Resort. I know we’ll all return feeling nourished and rejuvenated.

Surrounded by a luscious sensory smorgasbord we'll move, dance and play overlooking the exquisite views of the bay. As I let go of the busy-ness of routine and unplug from technology, I’ll sense my mind calming and my body awareness heightening. With less 'interference' I can better listen, interpret and consciously respond to the wisdom of my body and organically move towards choosing pleasure in each moment. Fiji time is Natural Time embodied, as the layers of western life that separate us from nature's elements are stripped away. I am so ready for that!

For many years I've been relentlessly pursuing personal growth, determinedly pushing my edge and guiding other people to realise their own magnificence. I love learning, especially understanding the 'why', the science behind what makes us human beings so human, how we can cultivate conscious sustainable change in ourselves and contribute and co-create in community, local to global.

Through Nia I've learned to trust that my body is my best teacher and wisest guide. I am in awe of the depth of Nia as a practice and as an ever-growing body of somatic education that blends cognitive learning with experiential embodiment. Nia translates movement, music, philosophy, science and anatomy into FUNctional tools for living a mindful, meaningful, joyful embodied life of purpose and pleasure.

As a recovering self-help junkie, my email inbox has been overflowing with messages of inspiration and information from Oprah, Brian Johnson, Lissa Rankin, Danielle LaPorte, Marie Forleo, Brendon Burchard, Gabby Bernstein and Deepak Chopra... just to name a few! After a dose of "the daily love" I'm "Hungry for Change". I have a "tech husband" and receive personalised messages from the Universe, and that's before I even get on facebook to ruminate with Rumi or get tied up with TED!

I'm 'studying' conscious sensuality and sexuality via Kim Anami's online program "Coming Together" and recently began a Level 1 course in the School for the Modern Mystic with Belinda Davidson. Bookmarks beckon from the partially read self-help library stacked next to my bed... A Handbook of Chakra Healing, Colin Tipping's Radical Forgiveness, Robert Holden's Loveability, Nick Ortner's The Tapping Solution, Deepak Chopra's The Soul of Leadership and Diana Richardson's Tantric Orgasm for Women.

While I am grateful to every one of these amazing teachers and soulpreneurs, all this knowledge can sometimes distract and overwhelm rather than help me move along my path to potential. It can seem easier to get plugged in at my desk, swirling in heady idealism rather than moving forward with embodied action. At some point we need to 'step onto the mat' and make a commitment to moving with the impulse within that wants us to grow, to expand, to live into our greatness, to bring our unique gifts as a contrubution to the world. Thank you to Nia for paving the way for us to take those steps!

Neuroscience confirms that we feel better when we are directing our life-force energy to something we believe is real, true and meaningful. Seeking 'self-help' does not mean there is something wrong with us. Rather, the body-mind-emotions and spirit thrive on the conscious stimulation that being open to learning and change provides. With gratitude I see that I already have everything I need. My journey into Joy begins each moment I listen to the wisdom of my body, and get moving.
