About the Nia Green Belt
Green Belt is an optional training, which focuses entirely on developing and embodying the skills to effectively teach Nia. All belt levels who teach or desire to teach are strongly encouraged to attend this training.
The Nia Promise and Delivering the Nia Experience are phrases we use to express the transformative power of Nia; to a Nia Teacher's ability to deeply move and touch people within the classroom environment. As a teacher, your role is to guide people through a meaningful journey of physical conditioning and self-discovery. Teaching Nia is all about sharing your personal experience – your physical and emotional sensations, visual images and feelings. To do so, you must have a solid understanding of the form, objective curriculum and communication techniques.
Green Belt comprehensively explores all mechanics of delivering the work, including embodying the choreography, cueing, creating intentional silences, dancing to the music and helping people achieve their personal fitness goals. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned teacher, Green Belt will further your teaching skills. New teachers develop confidence, craft and skill by learning and practicing the foundations of teaching. Seasoned teachers refine and deepen their understanding, building on their craft and receiving feedback from peers to deliver the most powerful experience possible.
The Green Belt training includes a pre-training course based on the 13 White Belt principles. As part of the training, you will learn and work with the routine, Passion.

In my Nia classes, events and White and Green belt trainings; you'll learn how to move in a way that's unique for your body, that honors your natural time and rhythm. My Nia Story.
I began teaching in the fitness industry in 1983. I loved physical movement, and found it in the form of high-mileage cycling, running, teaching aerobics and weight lifting. This high intensity approach to exercise, along with a spinal injury, often left me living in a physical body filled with pain, stiffness and rigidity. I was told at the age of 20 that I would need spinal surgery within the decade.In the late 80's I was ready to quit the fitness industry, filled with back-pain and bored with my movement options I went to New Orleans for a fitness conference and registered for the traditional fitness classes I needed for my continued education credits. Leaving the conference center I found a flyer on the ground that read Nia, Mind, Body & Spirit and contained a picture of Carlos and Debbie. On the short walk back to the hotel I made the decision to forego all of the traditional classes and spend the entire conference taking as many Nia workshops and classes being offered. That decision changed my body and my life.
From the moment I began moving with Debbie and Carlos, I understood that Nia was exactly what my body was looking for. "Its like the sun coming up in the morning" said Debbie as she shimmied. "The Body Likes it!" said Carlos, as we followed his knee sweeps. I sweated and wept and felt alive for the first time in many years. I went home from the conference with videos and music, determined to keep my body moving.
It took several years after that initial encounter before I had the courage to take my White Belt training. Every time I felt uncertain, or isolated I would pull out the Nia videos, like precious treasures, and dream of taking the White Belt. In 1996, I threw aside hesitation and excuses and took the training. It opened my world! I knew I wanted to teach and came home with my first Nia routine and practiced in front of the video until I was ready to share. After a few weeks of moving consistently,, things begin to happen. I noticed my spine was adjusting itself, I could hear little clicks and feel big releases while I was dancing. The pain diminished. I noticed that I could lie on my side and comfortably curl up my knees; something that I hadn't been able to do for years. I was loving movement again. I taught classes, workshops and enthusiastically continued on to my higher belt levels of Blue, Brown and Black as well as Nia 5-stages and 52 Moves trainings.
Today I am a Nia Trainer! I facilitate both the White and Green Belt trainings. I assist others in fulfilling their dreams through Nia, as teachers and as trainees. I am constantly discovering and sharing ways to live a sacred life in a pain free body. I travel internationally, as well as through-out the U.S., teaching in venues large and small.
Nia has increased my enthusiasm and curiosity for studying many modalities; Chakras, Kundalini Yoga, Continuum and Breema. I weave these disciplines into all that I do and weave Nia into all these disciplines. I am also passionate about art, storytelling and gardening. My creativity is at an all time high, allowing me to create workshops and retreats such as Chakra Journeys and DreamAlice.

I love training Green Belt. It is 5 days of coming together with others, knowing what you know, and filling in the gaps! A joyous celebration, a joyous reunion of body mind and spirit. Deepen your 52 moves, your 5 sensations, your connection to the music, your connection to dance. Come Alive in your relationship to teaching and to Nia!! We will spend one day focused on Music, the next day on Movement and then we will blend the two to create the magic and the Nia Promise of a mind body spirit workout that offers conditioning and self healing!
Whether you are a new white belt or a seasoned Black belt, The Green Belt is the belt not to be missed. There is something here for you that will allow you to fully step in to the teacher you know yourself to be..
Casa Micanopy, in Florida is an incredible place to do your Green Belt.It is a mystical, magical discovery. It has a beautiful dance studio, shared onsite accommodations and a small kitchen in which to prepare your food and eat communally. It is a 6-acre private oasis that allows for exploration, swimming and soaking in the stone hot tub. There is also the town of Micanopy which has restaurants and shops and is a 5 minute drive from the retreat center. Commune with the green of nature and get your green belt.
Accommodations are limited to 7 so register promptly to begin your pre-trainng and reserve your space. Accommodations will fill quickly.
This training begins at 8am on Saturday, you can plan your arrival for Friday evening after 6pm and departure for late Wednesday afternoon. Shared accommodations are $295 per person for Green Belt lodging which includes 5 NIGHTS!
