Special Tribute
The woman who first gave Nia her editorial voice
On Saturday, January 14, at 8:00 AM, during a full moon, Katherine Martin died. Katherine helped write and produce our first book, Non-Impact Aerobics. She had been living with cancer for several months and is survived by her son Ben and husband Franc. Many of you sent letters to her last year when I first announced she was ill. Your words touched her deeply and definitely made a difference in her life.
Katherine was one of those rare spirits who had the ability to intimately touch whomever she met. There was an aura of beauty, tenderness, honesty, and vulnerability around her always. Soft-spoken, her power was vast. Author, mother, wife, and role model to many, her passion for writing spanned her life. Her latest love, the books she wrote - Women of Spirit and Women of Courage - focused on praising others and their lives. I sit in this moment with the feeling of praise and thankfulness for Katherine. An amazing woman whose courage to live every moment fully in the face of bone, brain, and lung cancer was a reminder to me that my life is a gift and it is mine to create what I desire. Some people create the ordinary in living, while others, like Katherine, create magic.
In Love, For It Is The Only Choice—To Katherine:
May your journey light the way for me, and for those who will follow your guiding and loving spirit into the next journey. Together always, connected by the oneness of all that is, the voice you gave to Nia is alive in so many. As we dance, we will feel you, and you will forever see in us and in the world the results of your words and creative passion. To a life lived, always elegantly. Thank you.
