Change - The Opportunity of Transformation

One of the challenges of all leaders is to continually see the path through the changes that inevitably occur in the life of a business, and to clearly communicate direction along that path. Good leaders must have the discipline to continually clarify the vision for the company while remaining true to personal vision and objectively recognizing what is real for the company. These are some of my challenges as CEO of Nia Technique, Inc.

As the head of the company, I do not have the privilege of ignoring the things that need to be changed. I must pay attention and direct action to effect necessary changes, for every time I do not, hundreds of people are affected. Sometimes necessary changes cause difficulty, discomfort, and upset for a time. Managing change can be an arduous task, yet it is change - redefining and looking for opportunities to reach new levels of mastery – that is one of the driving forces in my life and my business.

Working with one of the core concepts of Nia, the developmental stages – Embryonic, Creeping, Crawling, Standing, Walking - reminds me to take every situation and to move through the stages to reach new levels of potential. Beginning with an open heart and clear mind, then moving through each stage mindfully helps me discover solutions, and see the right path to take in times of change.

The beauty of being CEO of Nia is that my personal growth and professional growth are one and the same – it is all a part of running this business. I have the privilege in my company to openly transform myself in the workplace. I feel that such personal transformation is ultimately what transforms all business. Life is never separate from work. When we pretend that life and work are separate, both growth and transformation are compromised, causing suffering in ourselves, our businesses, and our culture.

To elegantly move through and create change we need to be grounded in Self, committed to community, and open to the guidance of all that surrounds and influences us – we must transform. I know that when I slow down and take myself through the stages of development – of transformation – taking on the challenges of navigating through change becomes something new: it becomes part of the transformation of life itself.
