Holly Curtis Reflects on Self-Healing and Consciousness

In the body, consciousness means noticing and attending to sensation first. It is from there all insights flow. This was the basis of the daily Nia classes I led at the International Conference on Science and Consciousness in Santa Fe, NM, in April.

Southwestern imagery and Native American art adorning the beautiful historic La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe created a soothing backdrop for presenting Nia as a tool for conscious living. Over the five-day conference I guided students through the Five Stages of Self-Healing, beginning with the Embryonic stage and moving through a new stage each day of the event. The group was very curious and open to the journey of Self-Healing, with the same students returning each morning and new students filing in every day.

It was exciting to see and feel the development of the group over the five days, and by the last class we were all in sync - cha-cha-cha's and clock steps all in order, everyone expressing themselves in the dance, and the Joy of Movement present. At the end of our time together we were fully alive, awake, and energized.

The overall comment from the participants was that the Nia class was their favorite part of the conference, and they felt the healing in their bodies as they moved. By noticing the sensations of the body, we moved through healing and found insights into really being in our bodies and being joyful. It is always such a gift to share in moments like this with people experiencing Nia.
