Tip of the Month
Follow these simple suggestions to integrate your head into all you do. Use these tips to feel relaxed, refreshed, and more comfortable throughout your day, workouts, and life. Learn to integrate the head into movement and you will make all of your body movement flow easily and more comfortably.
To create a sense of lightness and ease as you walk or dance, imagine and perceive a long white feather running up the back of your head, up into the sky, touching and tickling the belly of the clouds. Relax and release your lower jaw and move throughout the day wearing this imaginary feather. Use it to maintain space between the vertebrae of your spine and organs, and to sustain a sense of lightness that comes from lengthening and connecting to a powerful source above you.
To create a relaxed neck and torso as you sit, walk, or dance, allow your head to gently move slightly up and out, and away from your torso. Breathe fully, inhaling and smelling the moment, and sense your head as light as a balloon.
Use the Nine Movement Forms of Nia to energize your head and neck movements. For more information, read Discover Your Energy Type in the Nia Book, specifically referencing the Alexander Technique, which is all about movement from the top.
