Tip of the Month
The more information you can receive from the ground up, the better you can guide and support your whole body. Learning to listen to sensation is the way to improve your sensory IQ. Foot sensation is your ability to recognize what your body is doing and experiencing via the messages you receive from your skin, muscles, and bones.
As you dance, listen to your body by noticing your toes. When you step, if your toes pull back or grip the floor, take this as a sign of needing to take smaller steps that create the sensation of security. When the feet are relaxed, the sensation you feel on the skin of the whole foot is a temperature and sensation that is equally disbursed. When the feet are relaxed, the sensation you feel in the muscles is one of support and readiness. And when the feet are relaxed, the sensation you feel from the bones is an internal support structure that allows you to be ready and relaxed.
Tip: Imagine your feet as large suction cups that can support you on the Earth. As you step, sense your feet engaging and hugging as well as disengaging and releasing.
