Integrating The Body's Way Education Into Your Class

Summer is upon us and we are in the final month of the Creeping Stage in The Body's Way Education. By now you should already be working with this education we are sharing with you in the new, on-line newsletter. In the last hard copy newsletter (Q1 06), we invited you to sign up on NiaNow.com for the next and continued newsletters. Since then we have made even more improvements! The new newsletter format, published monthly on NiaNow.com, is not only for teachers, but is also for the general public and your students. The new format gives us a way to communicate with you and your students every month, which means you and your students will receive Nia continuing education regularly in a user-friendly way that focus on specific aspects of The Body's Way, sharing wisdom in a way that builds understanding over time.

The Body's Way is this year's continuing education practice and study. It is a year-long, in-depth look that uses cognitive, symbolic, and sensory language to communicate information to help you and your students learn about and explore the science, craft, and art of the body. So far the feedback has been wonderful, however your questions about how to integrate the material into classes has provoked this letter. So, How do you use this information, and How can you personally invite your students to receive this education and use in their own lives and in their Nia classes?

How to Utilize The Body's Way Education

  1. Give the Gift of Health. Recognize that The Body's Way Education is a valuable resource and gift you can give to every one of your students. Give it to every student as a gift from you, and invite everyone you know to sign up, even people you meet on the street! You can order the new The Body's Way postcard and personalize them for your students. For example: A Gift of Health from (your name) "Please accept this gift of health from me, and visit NiaNow.com where you can sign up to receive your FREE subscription. Monthly you will receive somatic education you can use in life and in your fitness classes to get fit, personally grow and transform, and stay healthy. Thank you for taking an interest in your body, mind, emotions, and spirit!"
  2. Start your study from the very beginning. If this is your first introduction to the on-line newsletter, go back and catch up by reading the issues April and May. Begin with month one so you know what this study and education is all about.
  3. Use all of your newsletter material to stimulate new teaching language. For example: As part of preparing for your classes, read the cognitive, symbology, and sensory language from the Voices of the Body. Flood your body and mind with this new language and allow it to filter through you.
  4. Share the language with your students in Cycle One. As part of Setting Your Focus and Intent, integrate some of the Who Am I information. This month, integrate information about either the bones or joints. For example: "Today class we will focus on the three body weights, the head, chest, and pelvis, and their center support, the spine. Move with the intention to sense your pelvis, chest, and head as three energy containers. These three sets of bones each do a specific job. Your pelvis contains energy and protects abdominal viscera. The chest distributes and protects energy, while the head directs energy and protects your brain. All bones in the body give your muscles something to attach to, spiral over, and contract and lengthen along. Think of your bones as being tubes filled with life force air that makes moving easy and free. Imagine rings of air, halos of energy, at your waist and neck. Use these inner tubes of air to keep your head moving up and out, and your spine lengthened so you maintain space and volume inside your body."
  5. Share the Voices Of language as a Guided Meditation in Cycle Six. At the end of FloorPlay, share this language with your students as they rest on the ground. Read the words slowly, as a guided meditation. Inspire your students to fall in the love with the Voices of The Body, and then as they prepare to leave and Step Out in Cycle Seven, invite them to go on-line to receive this meditation and more in their very own FREE newsletter that will come to them monthly by signing up on NiaNow.com.
  6. Use the My Gift to You language in Cycle Seven. Share this language with your students as they prepare to Step Out and into their next experience. Invite them to be inspired by this special gift of the body, and to remain connected to the wisdom of this voice and to the voices of their body that urge them to seek pleasure and comfort.
  7. Use the Symbology language as tools to become more interactive and connected with a body part. As part of Cycle One, share this language to activate the right brain of your students and to activate their Sensory IQ. As part of Cycle Seven, use it again to remind students to use Symbology as a tool to Dance Through Life.
  8. Use the Sensory language to integrate Nia concepts. Use the In Nia… language to guide your students to become more masterful at integrating the white belt thirteen principles and other Nia concepts, including The Body's Way Education into their practice. Use the When Dancing Through Life… langauge to motivate your students to integrate Nia and the body's wisdom into everyday life.
  9. Use your Anatomy Coloring Book as a resource. Deepen your understanding of the body by coloring the associated body parts in an Anatomy and Physiology Coloring Book. Use what you learn to become a more masterful teacher, one who is prepared and can anticipate.
  10. Deepen your understanding of the Base, Core, and Upper Extremities. Every month, apply the new knowledge to what you already know about the base, core, and the upper extremities. Let the new information expand your Sensory IQ experience. Let it seep into your CPT, and use it to consciously personally train you and your body, using somatic wisdom to unleash inner knowing, organic craft, technique, and skill.
  11. Share with other teachers. Go online and into the Teacher’s Forum Archives and share how you use The Body's Way Education material in your classes and in your life. Talk about what you have learned, and how this education is helping you to grow as a professional and as a personal growth student.
  12. Talk about it! Share with your students and with the people in your life about this education. Consider offering to speak about The Body's Way to organizations that can benefit from this wisdom. Groups like: Weight Watchers, Massage Therapists, Chiropractic professionals, Hospitals, and Wellness organizations. Invite them to invite you to speak, and then give everyone who attends a Gift of Health, the FREE online newsletter to help them continue on their own journey. Invite then to come to your class!
  13. Keep learning and growing. Celebrate the process of learning and growing everyday from receiving wisdom from Nia and the body.

Integrate these suggestions and you will soon discover the power of embodying The Body's Way. Soon Your Body's Way will more clearly reflect the function and design of The Body's Way.
