New Routine List

HQ is making changes to routine availability as a result of various logistic and economic factors. One of these changes, for example, was the recent discontinuation of routines on videotape - producing small batches of VHS videos is no longer economical. Music goes out of print or becomes difficult to find in the quantities we require. As a small company with relatively few "customers", we're constantly balancing supply, demand, and costs, and at some point we have to make decisions on what stays and what goes.

Additionally, we acknowledge the need for, and value in, modernizing our routine catalog - routines with improved production values, current Nia concepts and language, and the capabilities of DVD technology. In this respect, the cost of redoing an older routine is the same as creating a new one, so we've had to ask ourselves which route serves the highest good, for Nia and for the teachers.

Finally, we want to produce routines where teachers have full rights to the music, including promotional use and retail sales. We've had some gratifying success with sales of music CDs here at StudioNia, and we believe this represents a potential additional source of income for teachers. Teachers will be able to obtain retail versions of the music CDs for all future routines, to use as they see fit, and there may be future video products available to teachers for resale.

After carefully reviewing where we are vs. where we want and need to be, we've downsized our routine catalog. This frees up energy and creates the space for us to launch higher-quality educational products and to raise the bar for all of our materials.

We're extremely excited about this opportunity to use cutting-edge technology to deliver elegant and innovative educational materials that accurately reflect Nia, its founders, and our teachers. Over the years, we've received many comments about the quality of the routines and how they're put together. We're now able to create routines and teaching materials at much higher levels than before, and your feedback and support has helped make this happen. We're going into full production to create new routines and expand our continuing education program. Our overall intent is to produce industry-leading products that better support you in developing as Nia teachers and expanding your businesses. We are determined to establish Nia as the leading mind-body practice and personal growth educational system on the planet.

The routine database on the nia-nia teacher site is being updated. Here is the current list, effective immediately (all titles are available in DVD only):

Answers to anticipated FAQs:

Q: Why are they getting rid of the old routines?

A: For various reasons, from economics to music availability to the need to modernize the moves, language, and concepts.

Q: Why don't they just redo the old routines?

A: This might save a little time, but keeps us rooted in the past, rather than launching us into the future. We'd rather commit our resources to creating new material that reflects the current state of Nia's evolution.

Q: What can we look forward to?

A: More interactivity, thanks to DVD technology. Dream Walker showcases portions of this potential. Examples of what we can do include: multiple voiceovers and audio tracks; routines chaptered by song; zoom in/out capability; viewer-selected viewing angles; and more. Also, the current names of the 52 moves will be used consistently throughout, and the language used in the book and in intensives will show up in the routines.

Q: If I already ordered a routine, will I still get it?

A: Yes, as long as it was ordered before May 22.

Q: Can I still teach discontinued routines that I have?

A: Yes.

Q: If I can't order a routine from HQ, can I get it from another teacher?

A: Our policy has always been that teachers may not share or sell routines they own.

Q: If I am a white belt, which routines do you suggest?

A: The best source for this information is your trainer.

Q: I already have all of these routines. What should I do?

A: We are on track to create four routines each year. You may not be able to get four new routines at the time you license, but they'll become available during your license period.

Q: There are some routines on the list that I don't have, and I don't want to order them because I don't like them. What should I do?

A: Routines are more than just classes on videotape or DVD. They're also opportunities to experience different sounds and explore different choreography, all of which add to a teacher's movement library and vocabulary. You'll get new music to put different moves to, or new moves to put to different music, or both. We've heard from many teachers that after working with a routine for a while, they've grown to appreciate it despite not initially liking it. Seize this opportunity to step out of your comfort zone!
