Keep Your Knees “On-Air”

By Ann Christiansen

Always keep your knees unlocked and “on air“ — avoid pushing them back and locking the joint. When the knee joints are relaxed you move with more grace and elegance.

Stand in front of the mirror and place your eyes in your kneecaps. View the world from there, checking your knee-eyes to see whether they are looking to the front.

With a frozen Base slowly let your knees twist and look around with their eyes at all corners of the room. Use skillfull feet actions to bring strength and stability to the ligaments holding your knee, the inside, outside and all around.

Do a five minute walk on the balls of your feet keeping the ankle springloaded, heels feathering and hovering above the ground. Sense for the conditioning you activate deep in the muscles of the calves. This will strengthen the knees and allow you to bend down and use the lower legs to push off into the air.

Get up and down from the floor and pretend to “push the planet“ when you press into the ground. Sense for ease and relaxation in the knee joint, feel that your body is able to use the leverage from the two bones in your lower legs and from the femur (thighbone).
