Nia Testimonial: Megan MacArthur, Nia Teacher
Kamuela, Hawaii, United States
I am a certified Nia black belt, next generation trainer in training, eco-broker, mother, neo-shamanic sprite, event producer and dancer. I have been teaching and sharing Nia and its ideas, philosophy and practice with a wide range of people in many areas of the world since 1993. Caroline Kohles and I started up Nia New York back in the mid 90's in Manhattan – and I have had a wild and wonderful journey since my first steps into Nia. I was a professional dancer and performer, and now I create large events for people incorporating the skills and awareness Nia has shared and taught me along the way. My mission is to dance with others as a way to increase personal power, sensational awareness and the world of energy where we all are our greatest selves.
Why do you practice and/or teach Nia?
Daily, I step deeper into my body – its sensations and options. Nia has shared this awareness with me. I wake up excited to move and experience life in sensation. Nia resets me when I am off-center or bummed. My darkest times and my most joyful times are expressed in Nia. Nia is alchemy for my body, mind, emotions and spirit to transition into joy.
Where and with whom do you take Nia classes and/or trainings?
I have attended trainings with many of the amazing Nia trainers. My first White, Blue, Brown and Black Belt Trainings were all with Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas. I take classes as I travel. NiaNow.com has been a great resource to help me find classes all over the world.
What is one thing most people don't know about Nia?
Here are a few "one things:"
• Nia can be a very challenging workout.
• Nia can be one of the most gentle and nurturing experiences in a person's life.
• Nia can bring tears, laughter and everything in between.
• Nia is all about the individual in terms of where they are in the moment. Always.
What tip can you give someone who is considering trying Nia for the first time?
Try it on. Stick with it and it will change your life.
How long do you plan to teach/take Nia classes?
Until my last breath. I plan to move in this body for a very long time. Nia has given me the tools. As large or small as the dance may be, I will follow the path of the joy of movement. Living in my body... living in sensation... making little adjustments along the way and dancing for the rest of my life. This is great stuff!
