Paris White Belt Experience
The Paris White Belt Intensive held in July was SENSA-TIONAL! The visual beauty of old buildings such as the dance studio we were in, inside a courtyard, the busy streets, everyone hustling and bustling, the scents, perfume, and the instant welcome we all felt from the group of 16 from all over the world—wow! My body softened and I felt a deep intimacy and a new connection on a cellular level. The group could have Welcome Home written on the board for me and I would not have been surprised!
The common language was English, so I never spoke a word of French except at lunch! I noticed right away how what seemed like a language barrier was creating a very high quality and frequency of listening. Many participants mentioned to me how they were listening with a sixth sense and using all parts of themselves to go beyond words and expressions that were not theirs.
The White Belt was a beautiful collaborative dance. Two Blue Belt teachers, French speakers, Fanny Delisle and Maria joined us to audit the White Belt again. They were the before, after, and in-between session wizards making magic for everyone - from the flowers, to toilet paper, to ice, to bringing us to the best address in Paris. Wow!
Regine Petit, Brown Belt, teaching and living in Paris, was the producer extraordinaire. She was there throughout, and her presence, even while typing and working on her laptop, was for me a container of strength and relaxation. I could depend on her anytime, and everything was done with a glowing smile and in joy!
And at home, Greg, with whom I was meeting everyday at midnight, was the technology muscle and brain of this journey! Nia classes happened at 7:00 PM every night. I so looked forward to seeing Regine and Fanny’s students, all with different experience. Some had a month, others a day or a year of Nia experience, but all had a smile on their faces telling me "You know, there’s something we share. Well you know, the big ‘J’!”
We topped off the week with a Jam on the day of the 25th Anniversary with Regine, Fanny, Maria and me, followed by a picnic on the grass with everyone, students, new graduates, and teachers. Lots of memorable moments in a city that breathes "Dancing Through Life!"
